Access Statement for Clarence House Bed and Breakfast
 

Introduction

We hope to be able to cater for the needs of nearly all visitors to our home, in which 3 of the rooms are dedicated to Bed and Breakfast, one of which is on the ground floor.  Clarence House was subject to a £100,000+ refurbishment in 2008/9, hence amongst other items, all carpets bedding fittings and fitments are brand new.  If you have any specific questions please do not hesitate to ring and we will endeavour to assist.

Arrival by Public Transport

There are 2 main Ferry services to the Isle, both of which operate car and high-speed passenger ferries: Wight Link, who operate between Portsmouth and Fishbourne, Lymington and Yarmouth and Red Funnel, between Southampton and East Cowes.

Passenger only high speed ferries by Red Funnel run from Southampton to Cowes, and that from Wight Link from Portsmouth to Ryde Pier Head from where you can catch a train direct to Shanklin, which is about 5 minute walk away from us or of course taxis are nearly always available as well.

There is also a passenger only Hovercraft service from Southsea to Ryde Promenade, where there is a bus terminal.

There is a bus-stop about 200 metres from our main entrance with frequent service during holiday periods.

Shanklin station is a 5-minute walk away , a large part of which is downhill.

Arrival and Parking Facilities

We have our own gravel-surfaced parking area suitable for up to 4 cars or 8 or so motorcycles. A private garage may also be available for bicycles.  Both are located on flat ground a few feet from the main entrance, which is approached via 7 steps 190 cm wide narrowing to 140cm, mostly 14cm high.  Both the front door and parking areas are illuminated at night.  Please let us know if you require assistance with your luggage.

Main Entrance

Takes place into an inner lobby from the front door ( 200cm x 84cm )where coats, hats, umbrellas etc may be deposited, which leads through a fire door (200cm x 81) into the carpeted main hall.

Public Areas

Guests are greeted and escorted to the adjacent guest lounge, also fitted with a fire door, same size as previous, where the formalities are completed . The guest room has a large digital TV, with a DVD library and is available between 5 - 11.00 pm.

Please note the whole house except the kitchen is short-pile, close-carpeted with runners on the top and ground floors.

Breakfast is served on the ground floor in a dedicated dining-room, approached through a further fire-door, size as previous. There is a single table which seats 6 people , our maximum capacity.  There is a public WC on the ground floor.

All Areas

We operate a total non-smoking policy inside the premises, the exception being ( for those die-hards!) outside in the front garden, to which all guests have access.
 

Bedrooms

We have one double with shower-ensuite on the ground floor, one twin with shower en-suite on the first floor and one double with en-suite bathroom on the second floor.  Flat screen digital televisions have remote control, and the rooms are all equipped with clock alarm radios, together with tea and coffee making facilities( other beverages available on request )

All bedroom doors have their own unique key locks and we can provide a front door key for possible late night returns

Laundry Facilities/General

There is a launderette within a short walk and we can provide an ironing board on request.  There is a bell on the hall table if you need to attract our attention.
